The Design Process

Bring Your Vision to Life

Our in-house designer, Olga Badovinac, will guide you through the process.  Whether you are remodeling an existing space, adding on, or building from scratch, Olga and the rest of the Modern Roots team will work with you to transform your ideas into reality.

Communicating Your Concept

During the first meeting we hope to learn and discuss your vision, budget, and potential challenges for the project.  At this time we can review any collected ideas, photos, or plans you have to share.  We will walk you through the process and explain the details.  Typically we will start with general concepts and work towards specifics.  We may also take some preliminary measurements and photos that will help us come up with some design concepts and rough budget calculations.

Exploring and Defining

Once you decide to move forward, we will begin with some preliminary designs, outline the project scope, and create rough budgets. We will take additional measurements, review the lot plan, set-backs, basic regulations, utilities, and do a basic viability analysis.  Once we have generated sketches, drawings, and other written information, we will meet again to review and fine tune the direction. Usually by the end of this phase you will be able to select a final direction for your project.

Bringing It All Together

The In-Depth Design phase includes continued design development and refinements up to the permit and construction drawings. It also includes consultation with subcontractors and suppliers, and making selections for things like fixtures and finishes. At this time we will begin to put together a concept schedule for the project and the finalize the budget estimates. During this phase we will meet with you several times to collaborate and share ideas and get the project ready to start.

Guidance and Support

Once the work begins, Olga will provide design support to guide you through to the completion of your project.  She will help you prepare the final details and fine tune the space to match your vision.
